(Since my time is limited, so for every chapter I will skip some and only focus on parts which most of the students found problem with it. Maybe after I retire, then only I will complete those skipped parts.)
From now on,
we will be learning about the 2nd chapter of Malaysia high school Addmaths:
QUADRATIC EQUATIONS.
The 1st topic is Factorisation.
WHAT???
Need to learn Factorisation??
Why don't we just use our calculator??
Just a few clicks~
Yeah,
since the technology is advanced now,
we are able to use calculator to solve a lot of Maths problems.
That's why a lot of Malaysia high school students relying on calculator to do Factorisation.
Even worse,
the school Maths teacher also encouraged it!
HOWEVER,
I do not encourage students to do Factorisation by relying on calculator.
This is to boost the confidence of the students!
Just imagine,
as a teacher if you encourage the students to rely on calculator for Factorisation.
The students who are sensitive might think that:
"Ahh..... I am not clever enough,
so I am relying on calculator..........."
Especially when the students saw their classmates able to do Factorisation without using calculator,
and they need to use calculator,
They will lose their confidence!!!
When a student has low confidence,
their learning will be slower,
and thus the result will become worse.
You use calculator since it is easier,
but unconsciously you are telling yourself that you are not clever,
you have to rely on calculator,
you are actually destroying yourself!
Thus,
is better to learn how to do Factorisation!
Well.....
A lot of students do face some problems while learning Factorisation.
According to my observation,
some of their basic Maths skills are not stable enough:
1) Multiplication
2) Addition & subtraction of negative numbers
3) Algebra
4) Expansion
Yes,
it is true some high school students didn't have good basic of those skills listed above.
For now,
I will emphasize on Expansion:
The standard answer:
I guess you are starting to think that this is so easy,
nothing more to talk about.
NO!
The thing is........
now you are doing Addmaths.
Of course you need to be able to get the answer within one line:
Getting the expansion in one line,
save your time and energy!
If you want to master Factorisation,
you need to master the skill to complete Expansion within a line.
So how did I able to do it within a line?
Let's have a look at the standard answer:
Do you realize that the red parts always repeated?
So we should be able to get the red parts within one line.
Then the 10x-x = 9x ,
just complete it in your brain.
Let me show you step by step.

Complete the -x+10x = 9x in your brain.
3rd step:
DONE !!
It will be easier to learn Factorisation if your Expansion is good.
